This position is a hybrid in-office role that works out of our Boston HQ. Monday-Thursday will be working in office and Friday is WFH. This is not a virtual / remote position.

Wayfair’s Finance group is seeking a project-based Senior Accountant to join our dynamic financial reporting team. In this fast-scaling role, you’ll have the opportunity to work across various areas of accounting and finance, with a strong focus on General Ledger (GL) accounting. This position offers exposure to a broad range of financial reporting, compliance, and analysis tasks, making it an ideal fit for someone eager to learn and explore different facets of accounting. As part of our growing public company, you’ll gain hands-on experience with high-impact financial projects, positioning yourself for career growth in a rapidly evolving finance organization.The financial reporting team is responsible for the preparation of our financial statements and ensures they are in compliance with GAAP. Members of this team work closely with various other teams and departments to properly report the consolidated balance sheets and income statement to management monthly as well as public filings quarterly and annually.

Responsibilities:

  • Key Contributor to Month-End Close: Drive the month-end close process, ensuring all financial data is accurate, timely, and aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Advanced General Ledger Reconciliations: Lead the preparation and critical analysis of reconciliations for various general ledger accounts, maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.
  • In-Depth Variance Analysis: Conduct detailed variance analysis on monthly balance sheets and income statements, providing actionable insights to improve financial performance.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare comprehensive monthly and ad-hoc financial reports for senior management, directly impacting strategic decision-making.
  • Audit Facilitation: Lead collaboration with external auditors, preparing detailed audit workpapers and ensuring seamless audit processes.
  • Policy & Procedure Optimization: Review, recommend, and implement best practices in accounting policies and procedures, driving continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Research & Compliance Leadership: Proactively research emerging accounting and reporting issues, ensuring the company’s practices are always in compliance with US GAAP.
  • Project Management & Process Improvement: Work closely with the financial reporting team and product management on high-impact projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of financial reporting.
  • Team Development & Cross-Training: Lead cross-training initiatives within the financial reporting team, fostering a culture of adaptability and continuous learning.
  • SOX Compliance & Documentation: Assist in the management and documentation of SOX compliance efforts, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of corporate governance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related analytical field (e.g., Economics, Engineering, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Science, or Analytics).
  • 3+ years of accounting or a related analytical field experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial troubleshooting skills.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and a collaborative team player.
  • Organized and self-motivated, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in translating financial concepts to individuals at all levels, including both finance and non-finance managers.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Quick learner, adept at mastering new systems, processes, and procedures, and capable of aligning local practices with global standards.

Nice to Haves:

  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Experience with SQL or Google BigQuery (GBQ).
  • Public accounting experience.
