Jump Trading Group is one of the leading quantitative trading and investment firms in the world. We are seeking an experienced senior lawyer to be based in our London office to join our global legal team to help serve the legal needs of our EMEA offices, with an initial focus on employment related matters.

Jump’s London office is the hub for managing Jump’s substantial United Kingdom, European and expanding Middle Eastern operations, which includes all aspects of Jump’s robust activities, including quantitative research and development, trading and back-office systems development, and venture and strategic investments. Key areas of responsibility include advising and working on non-contentious and contentious employment related matters. You will have the opportunity to build strong relationships with business teams and key personnel across the firm and provide guidance on a wide range of legal issues across the region with a strong focus on employment issues.

You will need to be highly experienced in UK/European employment matters, have strong attention to detail, be intellectually curious, willing to take the initiative, be resourceful, and have excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships across offices and departments, and be ready and eager to learn and master numerous other legal disciplines, ranging from wireless communications to the laws of trading. You also must be able to communicate clearly, both in writing and orally, to global team members, department heads, senior management, and external parties.

What You'll Do:

  • Key focus on non-contentious and contentious employment law related matters across EMEA, including recruitment, performance management, terminations, restrictive covenants, immigration, and data privacy
  • Work closely with our People Operations teams to develop and improve employment processes and procedures
  • Opportunities to serves as a legal advisor on a wide variety of business initiatives and transactions across the region both inside and outside the employment law area, with a strong focus on London/EMEA
  • Effectively review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including IT/software licensing agreements, leases, trading-related and other vendor agreements
  • Manage outside counsel on various matters
  • Partner with legal and compliance personnel around the world
  • Stay apprised of and advise on changes in applicable laws and regulations affecting the firm, in particular any applicable developments in employment law across the EMEA region
  • Help to oversee the proper functioning of the firm’s control and governance arrangements
  • Other duties as assigned or needed

Skills You'll Need:

  • At least 10 years’ legal experience as a UK qualified lawyer with a substantial portion of such experience being spent in private practice
  • Substantial knowledge and experience drafting, negotiating and reviewing employment documentation (for example, employment contracts and settlement agreements), as well as experience in contentious employment matters, including litigation matters
  • Substantial experience working in, and knowledge of regulations related to employment law in, various countries in the EMEA region and beyond, with a particular focus on the UK, Amsterdam, France, and Germany
  • Experience working with the financial sector preferred
  • Comfort working in a dynamic culture where employment-related issues are addressed in an individualised and bespoke manner
  • Aptitude for easily explaining complex legal issues to business partners
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn about and take the initiative regarding new subjects and business areas quickly
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and offices with strong interpersonal and communication skills
