Overview:

As the Lead/Senior Database Engineer and Cloud Migration Specialist, you will have a dual role, responsible for leading a team of database engineers supporting multiple database technologies and leading cloud migration projects into Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will play a critical part in shaping the database strategy, implementing automation, introducing DevOps principles to streamline database management, and ensuring successful cloud migrations into GCP.

You will:

  • Database Technology Leadership:
    • Lead and mentor a team of database engineers responsible for multiple database technologies.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align database solutions with organizational goals.
    • Evaluate, recommend, and implement new database technologies as needed.
  • Database Management and Performance:
    • Monitor and optimize the performance and availability of databases across various technologies.
    • Implement and maintain database security and access controls.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents in a timely manner.
  • Automation and DevOps:
    • Drive automation initiatives to streamline database provisioning, deployment, and maintenance.
    • Champion DevOps principles and best practices within the database engineering team.
    • Continuously improve database infrastructure through automation.
  • On-Call Support and Incident Management:
    • Participate in the on-call rotation and provide 24/7 support for critical database incidents.
    • Act as an escalation point for complex incidents, ensuring swift resolution.
    • Identify root causes of incidents and implement preventive measures.
  • Cloud Migration Leadership:
    • Lead cloud migration projects into Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
    • Develop migration strategies and plans in collaboration with cloud architects and cross-functional teams.
    • Ensure successful execution of migration projects, including data migration and application refactoring.
  • GCP Expertise:
    • Demonstrate a deep understanding of GCP services, features, and best practices.
    • Work closely with cloud architects to design and implement scalable, reliable, and cost-effective solutions in GCP.
    • Provide guidance to the team on GCP-specific tools and services.
  • Risk Management and Compliance:
    • Identify and mitigate risks associated with cloud migrations, including data security, compliance, and performance.
    • Ensure that migrations adhere to industry standards and compliance requirements.
    • Implement monitoring and auditing processes to maintain a secure and compliant GCP environment.

You have:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a database engineer with expertise in at least three of the following database technologies: Cassandra, Couchbase, Elasticsearch, MySQL, Kafka, Redis, Vertica - MUST
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring a team of database engineers (as a Tech lead, Senior Database engineer etc) - MUST
  • Strong knowledge of database administration, performance tuning, and security best practices.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, Shell) - MUST
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
  • Proven experience leading cloud migration projects into public cloud preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Familiarity with cloud migration tools and methodologies.
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and attention to detail in SLA monitoring and management.
