Storefront Engineering is in the enviable position of being able to speak directly to our customers. Through powerful technology, we make shopping our millions of products feel simple and personal, whether customers are just browsing while on-the-go on our native app or finalizing purchase decisions on the desktop from the comfort of their home.

For the past couple of years, Storefront Engineering has been going through a major technology transition, empowering teams to build services and interfaces that can be updated and deployed independently. We are on the journey to build the tools and services to deliver value to our customers more quickly, all in an environment where engineering teams have the autonomy to make the right decision for themselves and their product.

The GraphQL Platform team is at the forefront of that technology transition, through building foundational patterns and systems for Federated GraphQL API design, data orchestration, and application architecture. The team delivers the GraphQL client and service best practices, tier-0 runtime, tools, and architecture support necessary for teams across Wayfair to build exceptional clients, services, and systems. Our team is packed with passionate engineers, and we are looking for folks with a keen desire to learn and grow to come join us!

What You’ll Do:

• Oversee a sprint team of 5-8 software engineers
• Build a capable team with strong leadership through effective headcount planning, hiring, on-boarding, retention, and continuous improvement
• Setup KPIs to measure and improve the engineering velocity of your team
• Be responsible for owning features developed by your team in each phase of a project – design, implementation, code review, QA and deployment to production
• Partner closely with product owners and stakeholders to build and maintain a robust project roadmap
• Break down complex initiatives into concrete iterative pieces
• Seek out, define, and evolve best practices within teams’ area of focus as well as initiatives that raise the standards across the organization
• Flex your strength and knowledge of Federated GraphQL, Java, DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure and microservice development.
• Work within an Agile culture to foster continuous improvement at the team and departmental level
• Proven success in mentoring junior engineers to improve standards and reduce defects in dynamic environments

We Are A Match Because You Have:

• 7+ years of experience in engineering, with a preference for candidates with a mix of start-up and large-company experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Mastery leading or managing a team of software engineers and delivery of business impacting applications
• Prior hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining services and systems that support the delivery of end user experiences, functionality and data via well-designed APIs.
• Experience in cross-functional consensus building and influencing without authority
• Mastery in designing systems at scale
• Proficient in effective troubleshooting and issue resolution techniques
• Expertise with a modern programming language (such as Java, JavaScript, Node.js, Rust, or others)
