We are looking for a Senior Privacy Counsel for our Legal team in the heart of buzzing Berlin! 

As Babbel embarks on an exciting new stage of its development, we are looking for a legal counsel with a focus on Data Protection to enhance the capabilities and capacity of our legal team. 

As a key focus area for the Babbel legal team, you will have the opportunity to lead the further development of Data Protection planning for Babbel globally. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance across a range of different jurisdictions, and will lead training and education processes for the broader Babbel team. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to expand your skill set working across a wide range of commercial and other legal topics with a great team of lawyers who love our product and our business.  

You will:

  • Design a scalable and sustainable approach for Data Protection Management across Babbel
  • Manage, monitor and mitigate ongoing data protection exposures, risks and legal developments
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders on commercial topics and projects with data protection touch points 
  • Provide legal advice to all departments and the management in various fields of law as required in day to day business
  • Coordinate external counsel as we build out our data protection capabilities and strength across business units
  • Plan and conduct internal trainings on any required areas of data protection or compliance

You have:

  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience as a fully qualified lawyer, ideally including a number of years as in-house counsel
  • Education as a fully qualified German lawyer (1st and 2nd state exams) or comparable education preferably with above average results
  • Excellent communication, organizational, presentation and analytical skills, as well as the ability to develop practical legal solutions to complex issues
  • A proactive approach and ability to not shying away from assuming responsibility for your own tasks or identifying gaps and moving to address them
  • Experience with working in a truly international environment
  • Relevant experience in business law with a demonstrated focus on data protection law, CIPP/E or similar would be a plus
  • Full proficiency in both German and English (oral and written)
  • A sense of humor, common sense and a good team spirit
