The worldwide data management software market is massive (According to IDC, the worldwide database software market, which it refers to as the database management systems software market, was forecasted to be approximately $82 billion in 2023 growing to approximately $137 billion in 2027. This represents a 14% compound annual growth rate). At MongoDB we are transforming industries and empowering developers to build amazing apps that people use every day. We are the leading developer data platform and the first database provider to IPO in over 20 years. Join our team and be at the forefront of innovation and creativity.

The role

As a Sr. Product Manager on our Developer Tools team, you will have the opportunity to work on the tools that developers use every day to work with the MongoDB developer data platform.

In particular, you will focus on ensuring our platform has the right touchpoints across the SDLC.

We expect you to become a developer experience expert, understand the areas where we can help our community of developers and our customers, and drive our developer tools strategy accordingly.

This role can be based out of our Dublin office or remotely in EMEA.

About the team

We are a highly collaborative team of Product Managers, Engineers, Designers, Product Analysts, and Product Marketers all working together to make the experience of working with data easy and enjoyable for developers.

We are a distributed team; stretching from our offices in Dublin and Berlin to other locations in the US, Europe, and Singapore. Every now and then, we all meet at one of our offices for project kickoffs, workshops, and other team events.

Role Responsibilities
  • Explore the problem space, interact with customers and stakeholders, formulate the vision, strategy, and own the roadmap of your product area while keeping it aligned with the company’s strategic priorities
  • Work with the Engineering team to define and prioritize projects including customer requests, tech debt, and specific initiatives
  • Actively maintain a view of how the market, competition, and technologies evolve, and factor competitive information and customer feedback into our product direction
  • Communicate complex concepts in a manner that is easily understood by multiple audiences
  • End-to-end ownership of your product area: contribute to documentation, blog posts, demos, and marketing materials for new features, all while looking at data to make sure we are meeting our success metrics
Requirements
  • 5+ years of product management or equivalent experience with a complex technical product
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to collaborate with people from different parts of the company
  • Strong customer empathy: you need to understand the pain points our customers are facing and work with your team and customer-facing stakeholders to translate them into actionable solutions
  • Technically strong: you understand how software is built, packaged, deployed, and operated — our users are developers and you should be able to step into their shoes. You also understand Docker, containers, CLIs, APIs, CI/CD platforms (e.g., GitHub Actions)
  • Be hands-on: we build for developers. To empathize with your users and understand where your product fits within the developer journey you need to be comfortable with using your product and similar products in scripts, CI pipelines, and other setups and frameworks that are present in the most common developer toolkits
  • Data-informed: you enjoy digging through data, defining and measuring the right success metrics to understand if you are going in the right direction and to discover new opportunities
  • The ability to communicate technical content to diverse non-technical audiences
  • The desire to understand the database and software development markets
  • Experience with the full product development process: ideation, research, creation, design, execution, quality testing, etc
  • B.Sc. in Computer Science preferred or equivalent work experience
Nice to have
  • You have some software engineering experience and you like staying up-to-date with the development market trends
