This role requires a hybrid schedule and will be based in our NYC Office (Tuesday through Thursday) and work fully remotely on Mondays and Fridays each week.

The Senior Publicity Manager will be responsible for developing and executing innovative publicity strategies that elevate Lonely Planet’s books and by extension brand and key voices. This role requires an experienced PR professional with strong media relationships and a deep understanding of the travel and publishing industries. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of securing top-tier media coverage, the ability to work with agencies and in-house to drive buzz around new releases, and an ability to operate effectively across Publishing and Digital media.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and execute creative, results-driven publicity campaigns for Lonely Planet’s book launches, and contribute to cross-channel promotional plans.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media contacts across travel, lifestyle, and publishing industries, securing coverage for book releases in top-tier outlets (print, online, broadcast, and podcasts).
  • Craft compelling press materials, including press releases, media pitches, Q&As, and talking points for authors and spokespeople for key titles.
  • Manage US agency relationships, and coordinate activity in non-US markets - Australia and UK/EMEA - as well as directing the Assistant Marketing Manager supporting this work
  • Deliver Publishing-specific coverage in the form of Library press, book industry reviews and other relevant coverage for key titles.
  • Secure and coordinate relevant interviews, book tours, and media events, both in-person and virtual.
  • Work closely with Lonely Planet’s marketing, social media, and content teams to align PR efforts with broader brand strategies.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate collation of PR materials for new book releases.
  • Identify and engage influencers, bloggers, and travel industry partners to maximize exposure.
  • Monitor and analyze media coverage, providing insights and reports on campaign performance.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging PR opportunities, and competitor activities.

What We're Looking For:

  • A seasoned PR professional with 5+ years of experience in publicity, PR, or media relations, ideally in travel, lifestyle brands or Publishing.
  • A strong storyteller with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to craft compelling media pitches.
  • Well-connected in the travel, lifestyle, and publishing media landscape, with a proven track record of securing high-profile press coverage.
  • Experienced in event planning, including book launches, author tours, and influencer collaborations.
  • Able to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in media monitoring and PR tools (e.g., Cision, Meltwater, Muck Rack)

Compensation:

  • Cash Compensation Range for New York: $112,000 - $160,000*

*Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
