This role in a nutshell:

The Social Media & Content Lead will be a highly collaborative, creative, and driven communications expert, with a passion for social media/influencer and who has a deep knowledge of how to leverage social media to drive brand awareness and brand fame. 

As part of our award-winning communications team, you’ll work closely with the External Affairs Director, and broader communications team across Consumer PR, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. You’ll oversee a Social Media Manager, and work closely with partner agencies across social media and influencer strategy and campaigns. We have developed a truly integrated way of working across the communications team, so you’ll need to be highly collaborative, driven, and adaptable. 

On a day-to-day basis, you will be working alongside the advertising & brand team, sustainability, corporate comms, and zero carbon living teams, you’ll help strategize, shape, and drive plans and ideas that move our social media and influencer activity to reach our commercial objectives and help our customers live a lower cost, and lower carbon lifestyle

This is an incredible opportunity for a creative and strategic individual who is a social media expert, and who has great proven project management skills, strong organisation skills, is great at ‘attention to detail’, and loves getting stuff done. 

Given the scope of this role, you’ll need be comfortable with thinking strategically and putting plans into action, but also ready to roll your sleeves up and get involved with the day-to-day running of multiple channels across the OVO brand. We are passionate about bringing the customer to the heart of all we do, so you’ll also work alongside our care, operations, and social resolutions teams daily to help customers. 

You’ll be the day-to-day lead on supporting external agencies and partner relations, working closely with them to develop and project manage campaigns, ensure they’re consistently delivering on their KPIs and always finding new and innovative ways to win with consumers. 

You will bring your expertise, energy and positivity to the team and you will be inspired by the zero-carbon living journey that OVO is on with its members. You will also need the confidence and competence to hold your own in a business full of high-performers.

 

Your key outcomes will be:

  • Social Media Strategy - leading the end-to-end social media and influencer strategy for OVO.
  • Social Media Leadership - acting as the go-to person internally on all things social media - from day-to-day content creation to issues and crisis management, to guiding our leadership team on all things social media. Given the nature of the role, there will be times when you’ll need to be contactable over weekends, and at evenings to navigate social media issues with the wider team. 
  • Team Leadership - run a small team including a direct report (Social Media Manager) as well as an influencer secondment (Influencer Manager). 
  • Manage our social media and influencer agencies, ensuring they are fully integrated into wider comms plans and ensuring they’re kept in budget, and on brief across all projects, working in an agile and proactive manner with them daily. 
  • Financial management - managing the social media, social paid media, and influencer budgets monthly, and ensuring we are getting the most out of our budgets. 
  • Close collaboration with the Consumer PR and Corp Comms team as well as with the wider Brand Marketing, Advertising, Zero Carbon Living and Sustainability teams to help define and execute OVO’s overall Social and influencer strategy driving brand fame, awareness, and consideration
  • Develop and implement truly stand-out Social and Influencer campaigns that bring our brand mission to life
  • Drive innovation and best-in-class brand execution and creativity wherever possible to bring our brand to life, reaching new audiences and driving engagement, awareness and consideration. 
  • A strong understanding of the wider news and industry context - continually looking for opportunities for reactive content from OVO, furthering our position as an energy thought leader in the home decarbonisation space.

 

 

You’ll be a successful Social Media & Content Lead here at OVO if you…

  • Proven experience in social media or communications management from either agency side or large scale brands (energy experience a plus but not essential) 
  • Excellent and established project management skills across multiple campaigns concurrently, always-on social media, influencer, proactive and reactive social, events, paid social, issues management etc. 
  • Team leadership skills - knowing how to empower, encourage and get the best out of your team across times of ambiguity. 
  • Great communicator and a ‘people person’, with a proven ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders including representatives of our partner businesses as well as external agencies in order to drive campaign success.
  • Ambition to develop and deliver standout, disruptive social media and influencer campaigns. 
  • Experience managing agencies and large budgets. 
  • Good editorial skills for writing and reviewing both always-on, reactive, and proactive social copy, plus an eye for brand guardianship, ensuring assets and videos are on-brand at all times. 
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment of change. 
  • Fun, team player with a GSOH!

We’ll pay you between £65,000 and £80,000, depending on your specific skills and experience. If your expectations are a little different, have a chat with us!

We keep our pay ranges broad on purpose to give us, and you, flexibility to match your experience to our zero carbon mission.

You’ll be eligible for an on-target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.
