Software Engineer II
Our Opportunity:
We are looking for a Software Engineer II at our facility in Boston, MA to serve as a member of Chewy’s Fulfillment and Logistics technology team to help develop and execute the team’s services and functions, and thereby help Chewy to accelerate technological growth and reach new customers. The fulfillment and logistics technology organization develops micro-services and tools that enable, support, and optimize processes and practices for order fulfillment, and inbound and outbound logistics.
What You’ll Do:
- The development of new systems, and refactoring of existing systems, for cloud-native microservice operations.
- In addition to delivering new customer functionality, will contribute to the scaling, cost optimization, and performance optimization of Chewy’s services.
- Collaborate across the engineering organization to create best practices to help to map the overall ecosystem for Chewy's service architecture.
- Contribute to the design and development of cloud-based services that support the Fulfillment and Logistics technology roadmap.
- Help the team to design code that is logical, maintainable, scalable, modular, monitorable, highly available, secure, and performant.
- Help the team to meet service-level SLAs and KPIs by design.
- Serve as full stake owner of service quality and operational excellence.
- Help team to establish API contracts that are maintainable and meet customer use cases. Establish and champion architectural standards best practices that enable automated test and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).
- Translate organizational level business requirements and use cases into infrastructure capabilities verified to meet the requirements.
- Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders to implement org-wide best practices, data flows, reusable modules, and tooling.
- 5% domestic travel required.
- Local telecommuting permitted.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and 5 years of experience;
- Alternatively, a Master’s degree and 3 years of experience.
- Experience must include 3 years in following: software development in Java or similar object-oriented coding language, such as .Net/C#;
- Building and deploying applications to the cloud and exposure to administering and consuming AWS services;
- Integration of cloud services with on-premises technologies;
- Coding in higher level programming language, Python, Ruby, and JSON;
- Software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile/iterative and agile/scrum methodologies;
- Designing RESTful services and APIs;
- Scaling backend services;
- Working in cross functional and multidisciplinary teams;
- Building automated unit and integration tests in Java and Python;
- Manually testing and debugging of software;
- Software review and providing review feedback;
- SQL and NoSQL databases, AWS Aurora and DynamoDB; and
- Running performance tests.
- 5% domestic travel required.
