Airbnb’s Design team is looking for a Staff Experience Designer to shape the future of our payments platform and the guest and Host communities that process close to a billion dollars every day. From revolutionizing how guests book for travel, to the tools and ecosystems that empower Hosts to manage their earnings and set revenue goals, you’ll collaborate with industry leaders and innovative technology to reimagine the future of financial services and technology. With a global reach of 63 currencies and 220 countries/markets, you’ll lead initiatives that have tremendous impact.

As a Staff Experience Designer, you will be a key voice in the strategic direction of Airbnb’s payments platform. You will be responsible for delivering near-term product launches and the end user experience, along with shaping the team’s visions, strategy, and long-term innovation — partnering with fellow design teams and cross-function partners.

You will leverage systems thinking, AI, data visualization, and design systems to deliver beautiful end-to-end user experiences that simplify complex financial information. Your impact will range from the guest experience in finding new financial opportunities for guests to book, to economically empowering Hosts through robust tools providing actionable insights and data heavy experiences that adapt and scale to a diverse and global community.  Additionally, you will support, coach, and guide other designers towards the future vision of an Airbnb payments design system.

The ideal candidate is an experienced design leader, with a deep understanding of financial systems, experienced with regulatory or compliance requirements, and a curiosity for behavioral economics and a strong desire to simplify the most complicated problems. You have experience delivering beautiful, polished visual designs while leveraging your knowledge of systems designs. Success in this role is defined by team sentiment across all functions as well as the quality, impact, consistency, ease-of-use, and beauty of your work. You advocate for simplicity and question the status quo.

The Staff Experience Designer is an individual contributor (IC) role that will report to a Manager or Senior Manager of Experience Design. 

A typical day:

• Support and shape the evolution of the Airbnb payments platform from a design perspective; ensure consistency with, and contribute to, our brand architecture and product architecture.
• Partner with product managers, engineers, data scientists, researchers, and writers to define problems & goals, map user flows, prototype interactions, and launch new products and services.
• Provide indirect leadership and mentorship for a team of designers through the end-to-end interaction and visual design of products and services for a global audience.
• Indirectly lead the work of a team of talented designers, writers, program managers, researchers, product managers and engineers on project and strategic long-term initiatives.
• Build strong relationships with leaders inside and outside of core payment product teams; strong communication and executive stakeholder management skills.
• Have a keen understanding of financial technological, business, and user opportunities and constraints. 
• Scopes project work (in partnership with PMs and engineers) and helps define the design process and timeline.

Your expertise:

• Designer/Design leader with 10+ years of experience. 
• Excellent visual and interaction skills and craft —an expert in your field.
• Defines the design direction and process and can lead others through it.
• Can accurately scope your work as well as your teammate's.
• Responsible for the work of other designers on their project.
• Can effortlessly motivate and drive small to medium teams to transform a product.
• Demonstrated ability to help a team navigate ambiguity, set vision, and set strategy for global products.
• Systems-thinker with the ability to think beyond the pixels and design for offline experiences.
• Experience with making complex information, tools, and services easily digestible for your audience.
• Strong storytelling, presentation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience designing platforms and systems.

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at off-sites, as agreed to with your manager.
