Executive Strategy & Operations, Field Engineering

Mission

The Field Engineering Strategy and Scale team exists to ensure that Databricks Co-Founder and SVP of Field Engineering and his Executive Staff effectively leverage their time and maintain alignment across the company with the organization’s priorities. We execute this mission by creating operating models, processes, and communication mechanisms to drive alignment between Field Engineering and the rest of the company.

We are looking for a high-potential individual to join our team supporting executive strategy and operations for Field Engineering.  This person will be responsible for many of the day-to-day operations of the Field Engineering Executive Staff and program managers.  In this role, you will work closely with the SVP of Field Engineering, Chief of Staff, and members of the executive leadership team.

Impact you will have

  • Directly support the SVP to ensure executive meetings are well-prioritized and action items are followed up on. Develop succinct briefing materials to ensure the SVP is well–prepared for meetings, events, and presentations. This includes reviewing any and all internal and external meeting requests, ensuring effective briefings are created with context and desired outcomes, and following up after each meeting to ensure next steps are actioned and accomplished.
  • Assist with content development on behalf of the Chief of Staff, including external and internal communications, All Hands presentations, and any presentations the SVP is accountable in producing and delivering.
  • Identify and execute initiatives to make the Executive Staff more efficient and effective through a metrics focused approach.
  • Drive cross-functional, strategic initiatives of high importance to the company in close collaboration with senior executives, such as identifying key priority programs and metrics to deliver against our three company-wide business and people priorities.
  • You will work very closely with the Chief of Staff, FE’s Project Management Team, and our Communications leader to ensure the SVP is prepared for daily activities, action items are executed and closed out, and change management is implemented for successful initiative execution and measurement.

Who You Are:

  • You have 8+ years of experience, including demonstrated success in a role with significant executive exposure (e.g. consulting, investment banking, strategy, enterprise software business operations, etc.)
  • You demonstrate an advanced ability to define and break down ambiguous and complex business problems with limited guidance.
  • You have experience leading cross-functional initiatives from ideation through execution to realized impact.
  • You are an excellent communicator (written and oral), with an ability to synthesize complex information into clear, insightful takeaways and action-oriented recommendations.
  • You put the team before yourself and are willing to get hands-on, no matter how small the task.
  • Previous experience in enterprise software preferred.
  • Previous experience running a technical sales organization / team.
  • Proficiency with SQL and data visualization tools preferred.

Sample Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Review E-Staff Agenda items and ensure topics are relevant and presenters are prepared; coaching E-Staff teammates and other participants on E-staff meetings to ensure context is set and discussions at E-staff meetings and QBR are insights-oriented and have specificity of action moving forward.
  • Divide and Conquer strategic FE initiatives to ensure team members working on these initiatives have focus on what success looks like, and effectively triage, solve, and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Be the first line of contact and communication for individual meeting requests with the SVP to understand the ask/requirement for SVP engagement and to coach the requestors on how best to present and resolve their questions/requests.
  • Tightly align with the FE project management team for the top strategic priorities and status, next steps, and resolve any key blockers. This person has to be able to understand and represent the FE Operating Model strategies and trade-off’s, and coach various team members on how best to approach these initiatives and what successful progress looks like.
  • Summarize on a weekly basis key activities, updates, and requests for the SVP’s counsel and decision-making authority.
  • Divide and conquer cross-company meetings and initiatives with partner organizations (Strategy and Ops, Sales, Corp Strategy, Finance, etc.) to ensure effective summarization of needs and prioritize how best to get to a decision from the SVP.
