Data Governance Manager (FTC)
Deliveroo’s mission is to transform the way you shop and eat, bringing the neighbourhood to your door by connecting consumers, restaurants, shops and riders.
Working at Deliveroo is the perfect environment to build a definitive career, motivated by impact. Firstly, the impact that working here will have on your development, allowing you to grow faster than you might elsewhere; secondly, the impact that you can have on Deliveroo, leaving your mark as we scale; and finally, being part of something bigger, through the impact that we make together in our marketplace and communities.
Deliveroo's newly created Data Org is on a mission to create value for the business by leveraging data as a strategic asset, driving efficiencies and cutting costs. Deliveroo is seeking an experienced Data Governance Manager to join the team on a 12 month FTC to help us to realise our data ambitions.
Working closely with Data & Science, Tech, Finance and Legal teams, the Data Governance Manager will help to define and embed data management best practice at Deliveroo. This position presents a unique opportunity to assess Deliveroo’s data maturity and to establish data capabilities to drive the business forward in line with its data strategy.
The Data Governance Manager will primarily focus their time on completing a Data Management Maturity Assessment. This is a critical activity which will underpin a programme of work to ensure that Deliveroo is leveraging data to create value, and is doing so in an efficient, secure and compliant way. Furthermore, the Data Governance Manager will additionally work on establishing foundational data management controls, including, but not limited to, drafting a suite of policies and tracking and monitoring early implementation. Additionally, and where appropriate, the individual would be involved in ancillary activities to support the programme of work, including planning, stakeholder engagement and reporting, communication and training efforts associated.
This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to influence, and the ability to find creative solutions to challenges, to be effective. The Data Governance Manager will possess strong understanding and practical experience of implementing Data Management, gained in a similar fast-paced, technology-centric business; ideally at technology company and/or scale-up, or working in a consulting capacity. You will be the bridge between the project team and key stakeholders and therefore you will need to be an engaging and enthusiastic advocate, able to positively represent the wider team.
Responsibilities
- Review Deliveroo’s data maturity assessment materials, approach, and plans and make recommendations on ways to improve content and process to achieve the best outcomes.
- Act as the point of contact and SME for the Data Maturity Assessment, supporting the wider business to complete it successfully, accurately and to deadline.
- Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders to encourage participation and engagement with the assessment process.
- Drive the maturity assessment to completion, to the agreed deadline, scope and quality, by proactively unlocking challenges, managing issues, and escalating problems where appropriate.
- Summarise assessment results and report on them in a clear and concise way, highlighting any significant gaps and/or risks, as well as positive findings.
- Post-assessment, support the development and planning of a Data Management Implementation Roadmap, which sets out a clear pathway to embedding capabilities and controls which drive forward Deliveroo’s overall data maturity.
- Define and draft data policies and standards and lead on the sign-off process of said assets, including, for example, leading on the review process and capturing stakeholder feedback, managing version control, making updates and changes, where appropriate.
- Drive the initial embedding of policies, including monitoring and tracking adoption and compliance and supporting engagement, communication and training efforts to achieve this.
